Agra-Lucknow Access Controlled Expressway Project (Greenfield)
- Agra-Lucknow Expressway is a 302.222 Km long 6 Lane (Expandable to 08 lanes) Access Controlled (Greenfield) Expressway with 08-lane wide structures for future expansion of the expressway to 08 lanes.
- The expressway starts at Agra inner ring road, passes through Firozabad, Mainpuri, Etawah, Auraiya, Kannauj, Kanpur Nagar, Hardoi, Unnao distt. and ends on SH-40 in Lucknow. It has facilitated a high-speed corridor, connecting state capital Lucknow to Agra in western Uttar Pradesh and further to the National Capital, New Delhi through Yamuna Expressway. The travel time between Agra and Lucknow has reduced considerably to 03 hrs and further to New Delhi via Yamuna Expressway to 5 ½ hrs. The reduction in travel time has resulted in substantial saving in the consumption of fuel and a reduction in carbon footprint. Interchanges for exit/entry into the expressway have been provided at crossing with major roads.
- For the convenience of users of expressway 04 nos. Wayside Amenities, 02 nos. along each carriageway of the expressway, have been developed at a distance of 75 Km & 198 Km from Lucknow and 101 Km & 218 Km from Agra. Various facilities viz. Public toilets, Food court, Dhaba, Motel & dormitories for rest and Fuel stations are functional at each Wayside Amenities having large parking areas.
- Service road has been provided in a staggered manner on one side of the expressway all along with vehicles repairing center and 8 Mobile repairing vehicles the expressway, except at Major Bridge & ROB locations, for the convenience of the local populace.
- UPEIDA has deployed 15 Innovas with 125 ex-servicemen for round the clock patrolling of the expressway and providing help to accident victims. In addition to this, the police department has also deployed 27 Dial-112 Vans for patrolling of the expressway. 04 Ambulances have been deployed by UPEIDA for help to accident victims. The toll collection agency has additionally deployed 10 patrolling vehicles and 05 ambulances with 80 personals are also deployed from their side. Thus, a total no. of 25 patrolling vehicles and 09 ambulances are deployed on Agra-Lucknow Expressway besides UP-112 vehicles. 5 cranes 5 Hydras are also deployed. - An agency for catching and removing stray animals from the expressway has also been deployed by UPEIDA to check accidents due to animals straying on the expressway.
- For the safety and security of traffic, the process for implementation of state of the art "Advanced Traffic Management System" has been implemented. In the first phase, 152 Emergency call boxes (ECB) at every 04 Km, 50 CCTV cameras, and 10 Speed & Number Plate Detection radar cameras under the Automatic Number Plate Recognition System (ANPR) have been installed on the expressway. - To put check on over speeding of vehicles e-challan is being done based on an average speed of vehicles between toll plaza situated near Agra and Lucknow.
- The safety measures taken by UPEIDA have resulted in a considerable reduction in accidents on the expressway.
- Total Cost of Project: Rs.11526.73 crores (excluding cost of land)
- Starting date of work: January 2015 to March 2015
- Expected time of completion : 22-24 months
As per the contract, the Construction period of the project was 36 months. Whereas the project was completed in short span of time and was inaugurated on 21.11.2016.

- Access Controlled Expressway with limited entry/exit points.
- Carriageway - 06 lane Divided Carriageway (expandable to 08 lanes) with all the structures 8 lanes wide.
- Journey time between Agra and Lucknow is reduced to 3 hours, approximately.
- Interchanges for major Roads, Underpasses for vehicles, Pedestrians & Animals.
- Service Road, staggered on both sides of Expressway all along the expressway accept at Major bridges, RoBs.
- Wayside amenities with provision for Toilet Blocks, Petrol Pumps, Service Stations, Restaurants & Shopping Arcades, etc. at 4 locations; 2 each on either side of Expressway.
- Provision of the airstrip for landing and taking off fighter planes in case of emergency.Advanced Traffic Management System comprising of electronic call boxes (ECB), Digital Message Screens, Video Monitoring & Incident Detection System, GPS based Ambulance Service, etc. Response time of the security team and an ambulance is 4 to 11 minutes
- Use of Green Energy (Solar) for all illumination purposes.
- Development of green belt on both sides and the median of Expressway and rainwater harvesting arrangements.
- Development of Mandi's at two places (Distt Kannauj & Mainpuri) with access from the expressway.
- Fastag facility is available.
